Southern Lakes voted top outdoor and adventure destination

The Southern Lakes region of New Zealand's South Island is the top outdoor and adventure destination in the South Pacific according to the Trip Advisor Travelers' Choice Awards 2010, taking three of the category's top four spots.

Encompassing the three regions of Queenstown, Fiordland and Lake Wanaka, Southern Lakes is the only New Zealand destination represented in the top four, confirming its position at the forefront of New Zealand tourism.

World-famous resort town, Queenstown was voted the number one outdoor and adventure destination not only in the South Pacific but also the world with its "staggering beauty and heart-pumping thrills". Third place went to Te Anau in Fiordland at the gateway to Fiordland National Park and the Te Wahi Pounamu World Heritage area. Lake Wanaka was voted fourth for its "appeal to both adventure lovers and relaxation-minded travellers".

Incorporating one of the largest National Parks in the world, Fiordland is also part of the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Area.
